For SMSFs administered by Intello, where a member of the fund wants to claim a tax deduction for personal contributions made during the financial year, they need to complete a "Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions" form and submit to Intello as the SMSF administrator as well as provide a copy to their personal accountant or tax agent.
The ATO has useful information on eligibility and how to complete the form on their website here: Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions
This notice to claim a deduction (under s290-170) can be generated for the members signature via the Intello Adviser Portal.
It's also (temporarily available on our website here).
Once completed, either upload the signed form to a Task or upload via the Express Uploader.

Please note that Notice of Intent to Claim forms DO NOT need to be lodged with the ATO - they are to be provided from the SMSF member to the SMSF only.
Date of Notice of Intent to Claim Forms
Please note that Notice of Intent to Claim Forms need to be completed and submitted to the superannuation fund / SMSF prior to the earlier of these dates for the deduction to be claimed:
Before the end of the day that the income tax return of the super fund member was lodged (for the income year in which the personal contributions were made),ย
Or, before the end of the income year following the year in which the contribution was made (i.e. 30 June 2020 to claim a tax deduction for personal contributions made for the 30 June 2019 financial year).
The above dates apply to both SMSFs and APRA regulated superannuation funds.ย
We recommended providing the completed Notice of Intent to Claim Form to Intello as the SMSF administrators as soon as the amount of personal contribution to be claimed has been confirmed by the client or their tax agent.
