Setting Up Multi-Factor Authentication (Once Only)

From 31 March 2019, when you login to Class as an Adviser, you will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Please note that MFA is NOT REQUIRED for Clients who access their online SMSF and Portfolio reports via Class Client View.

You will need an authenticator app on your phone. MFA is mandatory (mandated by the ATO) and cannot be turned off (although you can set it remember for 30 days - see below).

When you log in to Class if you haven't yet set up MFA you will be prompted to as soon as you log into Class. The following screen will display. Follow the setup instructions displayed on the page:

Download and install an authenticator app onto your phone:

We recommend Google Authenticator

Add a new account in your authenticator app and scan the QR code:

Enter the code displayed in the authenticator app into the box and click Verify Code and Turn On

Once the code has been verified, Multi-Factor Authentication will be successfully enabled on your account. The next time you log in to Class you will be asked to provide a verification code from the authenticator app.

Logging into Class with Multi-Factor Authentication

Once multi-factor authentication has been enabled for your account, you will be asked to enter the code from the authenticator app after entering your username and password on login.

  1. Enter your username and password in the login page as usual

  2. Open your authenticator app on your mobile device and enter the code displayed to complete the login process.

If you do not want to be asked for the authenticator code again for the next 30 days, select Remember this device.

We recommend ticking the box to remember this device for 30 days.

Set up security questions to recover MFA (for when you get a new phone!)

We strongly recommend setting up 3 security questions once you are logged in.  You can do this in Class here: Add / Edit Security Questions to recover MFA

The benefit of this is that when you need to re-set your MFA (new phone etc.) you can answer 2 of the 3 questions to enable MFA to easily be set up again.

If you have any issues with MFA or accessing your the Class Adviser Dashboard or Client View, please contact us.

How to reset Class MFA?

How to use MFA without a smart phone?

Although we recommend the Google Authenticator app for use with Class MFA, there are various desktop apps available as an alternative to a smart-phone based app.

Intello cannot make any recommendations around these desktop solutions so we recommend advisers undertake their own investigations and consult with their own network admin / security advisers.
